Day 157: Gettin' Dooown with the Art Supplies

Definitely something I've learned through doing The Thirty-Third project so far this year, is that it is so worth it to spend time on preparation for creativity. Finding the right tools, creating the right space, investing in new things that will spur on more creativity. I visited an art store (Meiningers in Denver) and bought some new fun items! I'm like a kid in a candy store in this place. So excited to try them all out.

- I got a disposable palette (although I often save the palettes, they are like their own paintings), white acrylic gouache (I was running out), SILVER acrylic ink, white acrylic ink (I yellowed my other bottle), and some great thin art pens.

Day 93: Pinning Pins on Pinterest

So who doesn't love Pinterest?

I think I'm a day behind (sorry 'bout that avid followers ...aka parents and in-laws and email subscribers *smile* ). But I do know that this weekend I created a new Pin Board for some illustrations I'm thinking about and drawing in my head (just not on paper yet). It's a creation of Inspiration! Here is the link to those pins. Also, I set a link to my Pinterst boards over there on the right hand side of the blog anytime you wanna take a look.

Day 36: A Creativity Talking-To

Today 2 things happened related to the 33rd:

1.) I had lunch with my husband and a friend who deemed themselves my honorary and voluntary Board of Trustees for The Thirty Third. They said I was not holding up my end of the bargain to create daily… as I "took a break" and didn't create yesterday, and therefore I have to create two things today. I think I've been thinking about creating too hard and need to get back to the basics and fun of it. (And probably need that reminding from this Board every so often. Smile.)

2.) I listened to RadioLab's episode "Help!" which had some really interesting insights and ideas for the creative person this week (I would highly recommend RadioLab for learning, discussion, and ideas.) The "Help!" episode was about: "trying to figure out how to make a deal with yourself when most of you doesn't want to do what the rest of you wants to do."

The episode is at the bottom of this post if you'd like to listen to it. (Around minute 27:44 is when the part about creativity sets in, but the whole thing is interesting.) Or go here to see more info.

The gist of this segment of the episode is: Sometimes you have to think of the creative thing that you are trying to create as a something, a someone. Think of it as living outside of you, that it wants to "use" YOU as its catalyst. That creativity may need to be conversed with, treated nicely, loved, nurtured, or sometimes scolded, molded, and given a good "talking-to."

At the risk of sounding absolutely wacky, I decided to give my "creativity" a "talking-to." So for Yesterday (today) I created an audio segment of my giving a "talking-to" to my creative self.

Ok. So... Don't laugh. Just listen.

(Also this made me think of Jessica's Daily Affirmation. This YouTube video has been passed around the world unendingly, but if you haven't seen it, take a look.)

Day 20: More Digital Visualizations

So, from my link to Dreamlines yesterday, I kept playing and came up with all of these. These creations inspire new ideas. Mr. Leonardo Solaas, thanks for creating such a creative tool. (There's also a doodl application that is similar and allows for uploading personal pics, too, if you want to try it. And a flickr group for all the photos.)

Day 6: Sketchwork Tiles (for more creativity later)

About a year ago I went to Arizona with my husband's family for a short vacation. There were tiles in the house we stayed at that I took pictures of because I loved their simplicity and "desert uniqueness." Inspired by these tiles, I sketched these out today: One of clover (green for a "wee" St. Patty's tribute) and one of a deer in the snow after a picture my friend took while she was visiting Denver this winter. The tiles in the house in Arizona are at the bottom.

I plan to do some more with these sketches soon.
